Saputara, Gujarat

 Nestled in the western Ghats ( Sahyadri Ranges ) on the border of Gujarat and Maharashtra, the hill station of Saputara in the Dang district of Gujarat is one of its most visited tourist places.


Literally meaning the Abode of the Snakes, one can see an image of a snake on the shores of the river Sarpaganga. Technically, it lies in Gujarat, but many towns of the state of Maharashtra lie very close to it as well. Hence it is a perfect getaway for people of both the states.

Picturesque locales, Cool and pleasant climate, lush green beauty of the forests on the Sahyadris, the view of the peaks and valleys, cascading waterfalls, calming shores of the lake, winding roads besides a number of activities that one can indulge in, and quite a few festivals and events arranged by the Tourism department of Gujarat.


It is home to the Dang tribal community. Apart from the natural beauty there is much to enjoy here be it a tribal museum, temples and a glimpse into the life of the tribal community in and around the hill station, leading a simple life totally dependent on the natural resources available. However, tourism and efforts by the Tourism department of Gujarat has taken messages to bring about their economical upliftment.

Via Airways - Nashik Airport at a distance of 70 kms is the closest airport 

Via Railways - Waghai Railway Station, Bilimora at a distance of 50 kms is the closest railway station

Via Roadways - One can drive up to the hill station due to good roads leading up to it. Number of private bus services, cabs etc are easily available from all major towns and cities, both in Gujarat and Maharashtra

Religious Significance for the Hindus - Lord Ram, Sita Mata and Lord Lakshman are believed to have spent 10 years of their exile in this place.
