Mahisagar District, Gujarat

The district of Mahisagar is located in the North Central part of the State of Gujarat. It was Gujarat's 28th State that came into existence on the 26th of January in the year 2013. Although it started full - fledged functioning from the 15th of August in the year 2013. It was created by carving it out from the districts Kheda and Panchmahal. 


It has the unique distinction of the first Dinosaur fossil discovery in Balasinor in the early 1800s.

It was identified as  Rajasaurus narmadensis (Latin for "princely lizard from the Narmada Valley" ).

The district gets its name from the holy river Mahi which flows from east to west and is very vast. There are many holy pilgrimage places and temples all along its shores.

Via Railways - The district doesn't have its Railway Network except for Virpur station.
