Mumbai, Bombay, Bambai...The financial , entertainment , cultural and commercial capital of the state of Maharashtra, is the stuff dreams are made of, so no wonder It's aptly called the City of Dreams.

Officially renamed Mumbai from Bombay in 1995, the name is believed to originate from Goddess Mumba Devi ( KulDevi ) and Ayi meaning mother in Marathi, who protects and blesses this city originally  consisting of 7 islands in the Arabian Sea.

These 7 islands were given in dowry by the Portuguese to the English King Charles II on his marriage to Catherine of Braganza.

Lying on the western coast of India , Mumbai became the Capital of the state of Maharashtra on its formation in 1960.

With a GDP of  6.16 % it is rightly considered to be the hub of business and commerce.

It is also home to innumerable MultiNational Companies having their headquarters here as also being a centre  of  scientific and nuclear institutions.

It has thousands of commercial establishments employing lakhs of people.

It is the second most populated city in India and the 7th in the whole world. 

Population of Mumbai as per 2011 census was 1.25 crores and consequently it is one of the most expensive cities in the world. 

Languages spoken here are Marathi ( The State language ) , Hindi, English ( language of Commerce )  and Gujarati .

It would be totally correct to say that Mumbai ( along with its suburbs ) is a very popular tourist attraction due to its varied history, culture, architecture, commercial and cosmopolitan vibe. It has scores and scores of tourist places that cater to thousands of tourists every year.
