Singaara Chennai

Chennai – which had been known as Madras for a long time, is the capital of the state of Tamilnadu. The 4th populas metropolitan city along the Coramandel Coast, Chennai is famous for its beaches, its art and craft and also for it special Tamil Slang.

The city of Madras is relatively new (built or created only in the 17th century by the British). But areas like Mylapore, were there for so many centuries. The Kapaleeshwar temple have the fame of Paadal Petra Sthalam (Thirugnanasambandar have sung in praise of Kapaleeshwar). Madras became the administrative centre of Madras Presidency.

Chennai’s December music festival is very famous and during the month of December and January lots of people from all over the world, especially carnatic singers and musicians come to Chennai to take part or to witness the music festival.


How to reach Chennai

Chennai can be reached by Air, Road and Rail. Chennai have both International and Domestic airports. Both the airports are located in Meenambakkam, Chennai. There is also a Cargo Terminal in this Airport. The airport is about 15kms away from Chennai. To reach the city and other areas, there are different taxis available at the entrance. There are two major railway stations in Chennai. Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore. Trains from all over India reach Chennai Central and the trains from South India arrive at Chennai Egmore. There are prepaid metered autos available in front of the railway stations.

CMBT – Koyambedu is the biggest bus terminus in Asia. Busses to all major towns go from CMBT through the five national highways. Apart from the government buses many private operators also ply busses.
