Population - 126,189,673 ( Census , 2011 ) making it the Second most populated State in India.


Population break-up -  58,243,056 Males and 54,131,277 Females.


Sex Ratio - 929 females / 1000 Males 


Geographical Size  - Third in the country, with area being 307,713 sq.km  


Date of Formation  - 1st  May 1960, which is celebrated as Maharashtra Day.


How - Splitting the then British  Bombay State , on the basis of language into Gujarat, that had maximum Gujarati speaking  population  and Maharashtra with the majority being Marathi Speaking people. 


Geographical borders - 


West -  The Arabian Sea, 

East - The State of Chattisgarh 

South- East - The State of Telangana 

South - The States of Karnataka and Goa 

North West - Daman , Diu , Dadra & Nagar Haveli
