Patan District, Gujarat

The district of Patan lies in the northern part of the state of Gujarat. It was carved out of Mahasena and Banaskantha districts on the 2nd of October, 1997. The district has religious and historical significance. There are more than 100 Jain temples here that attract a number of religious pilgrims every year. On top of that it has quite a few ancient structures that show marvellous architectural engineering and are very popular with the tourists. The district being quite close to the neighbouring country of Pakistan is quite a sensitive zone. It is world famous for its Patola Saree which is hand made  and takes up to 6 months to a year to be woven by a select few skilled weavers who belong to the three remaining families having its skill and knowledge. No wonder it is very sought after and extremely expensive due to its weaving style and exclusiveness.
