The district of Churu lies in the northern part of the state of Rajasthan. It was founded by the Banirot Rajputs. It was a princely state for centuries and later on a part of the Bikaner State. After independence, it was formed in the year 1948 by combining the tehsils of Taranagar, Rajgarh and Churu. The district headquarter Churu is referred to as the Gate to the Thar Desert and the district is majorly a part of the desert. Temples, palaces, historical monuments, havelis, forts, unending sand dunes, ponds and sanctuaries are what attract tourists to the district. The sanctuaries are very popular due to the migratory birds that come from far off countries like Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Siberia etc. Exotic animals like Blackbuck attract wildlife enthusiasts. Ancient temples play a big part in religious tourism. The district is rich in history and culture that is apparent in most of its architecture.
