Hiranagar - Kathua District

HIRANAGAR, KATHUA DISTRICT, JAMMU AND KASHMIR (Source- mytourmania.com) Hiranagar is a town and a notified area committee of the Kathua District in Jammu and Kashmir. Hiranagar is Tehsil Head Quarters. Hiranagr is believed to be established by Rajput Raja Hira Singh who was the son of King Dhyan Singh and a nephew of King Gulab Singh. Raja Hira Singh established the town after his name when he was vouchsafed with the jagir of Jasrota by Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab (1834-44 AD). He also modernized the Jasmergarh Fort located between the Bein and Tarnah streams. The fort also contained the tehsil and other government offices preceding 1947.
