Important Information for Visiting Andaman and Nicobar Islands


For Indian Tourists:

  • A confirmed round-trip flight ticket is essential for travel to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Only the Andaman Islands are open to tourists, while Nicobar Islands remain restricted.
  • Indian tourists do not require any permit to visit Andaman Islands.
  • Visiting tribal areas is strictly prohibited, and special permission is granted by the Deputy Commissioner of Andamans for specific cases.

For Foreign Tourists:

  • Special permission is required for foreign nationals to visit Andaman Islands.
  • The permission is granted for 30 days initially, extendable for an additional 15 days.
  • Permission can be obtained from Indian Missions abroad or immigration authorities in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, or on arrival at Port Blair Airport.
  • Foreign nationals are also not allowed to visit Nicobar Islands.
  • The permit allows visits to Port Blair, Havelock Islands, Neil Islands, Mayabunder, Diglipur, and Rangat for up to a month, with overnight stays permitted in these areas.
  • Day visits are allowed to Jolly Buoy, South Cinque, Red Skin, Mountain Hariet, and Madhuban.
  • Foreigners with special permission can stay overnight at South Andaman, Middle Andaman, and Little Andaman Islands, Neill Island, Havelock Islands, Baatand Islands, North Passage Islands, Long Islands, Diglipur, and Islands in the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.
  • Certain islands like Boat Haboday, Twin Island, Tarmugli Island, Malay Island, and Pluto Islands are off-limits.
  • Foreigners are not allowed to visit tribal reserves.
